Every Vice-President has constitutional duties that are clearly spelt out as his to carry out aside those other duties delegated to him by the President and Commander in Chief from time to time.
We have so far discussed roles that I have played and will continue to play as Vice President, Domestic Affairs in a representative capacity. But apart from the ones I do in a representative capacity, there are those duties I carry out as mine on a more permanent basis. Of course, any time I’m also not available to do any of these, she does step in. But primarily, I’ve taken them up as mine to do.
Weeding and sweeping of the compound is mine. I’m not referring to just the area that isn’t fenced. The direct frontage of the house, fenced in, often grow weeds despite the fact it’s cemented. I would uproot the grass and then sweep the entire compound clean. I don’t do this every week. Whenever the weeds grow or the compound is dirty, I do this. It’s a job I’ve taken up as mine.
I take the gas cylinders for refill whenever they’re exhausted. Issues relating to carpentry work, electrical work, bulb replacements, servicing and maintenance of cars and generators, plumbing issues and other maintenance works are mine to fix or coordinate as the case may be. You’ll think these are little domestic works until you start.
And then, if a snake enters the house, it’s my primary domestic duty to kill it. The day one did, that’s when I knew that the statement, “what a man can do, a woman can do better,” is not true. ? That statement will always be true until a snake enters your house. ?
I know that when our babies arrive, the scope of my primary domestic work will likely expand. As of now, these are the stuffs I do primarily as Vice-President aside the other roles I play to step in for Madam President or support her from time to time.
So talk to me as a man, what other domestic duties will you like to take up primarily as yours? Which of mine won’t you like to take up?
I want women to also talk to me. Apart from all the duties I’ve taken up as mine and the other support I provide, what other domestic work do you think we men should take up primarily?
