At those moments of great hunger when there’s no food or the food is not yet ready, snacks that are readily available in the house can help to douse the tension. It is therefore essential to ensure there’s always snacks in the house as part of the quest to ensure peace in this department.

For me, my favourite snack is Garri and Sugar with groundnut. Please don’t call me a bush boy. I just love it. I always ensure it’s in supply in the house. As long as there is Garri and my bottle of groundnut is intact and there’s sugar inside the container where I keep it, I’m good to go.

Food is not yet ready? I simply reach out for my beloved delicacy. Sometimes that’s all I need to do for my wife to rush to the kitchen to fix something. The moment I see that nothing is going on and I’m very hungry, instead of asking unnecessary questions that can trigger disputes, I simply reach out for my cup. That cup is all she needs to know that the hunger can no longer wait.

She’ll sometimes stop me and say, “please don’t take Garri. Give me a few minutes.” Sometimes she’ll say, “please don’t take so much so you can have space in your tummy for the dinner.”

What matters is peace. When you have done something to douse the biting hunger temporarily, you’ll be less touchy and irritable while the wait lasts.

What’s your own favourite snack? Let it always be in good supply in the house as an important support system.
